Some of you might be wondering what all this is about. MixxZine.com is an upcoming website by Sean Tilley that focuses on the importance of Remix Culture.

Remix Culture is a growing movement of artists, designers, authors, writers, and actors to create original content that can be freely shared, copied, distributed, derived from, and remixed however you want. The Creative Commons licenses allow content creators to distribute their work however they want for other people to build upon and share. In this way, it is a set of reusable templates for culture.

Internet memes fit into this vein of remix quite well. You could make the argument that, say, Rage Comics, employs this idea of constantly remixing a template to constantly turn old content into something new. There's no big suits trying to slam anyone for piracy, and you can share and build upon existing works in the Creative Commons however you want, as long as you follow the license.

MixxZine comes in with the idea that there is already an endless sea of CC-licensed content. Our goal is to help hand-pick the best bits to share with the rest of the world. We want to show you how great Remix Culture can really be, and why you should make it a part of your everyday consumption, whether it's art, photography, music, movies, or anything else that contains a good story or great idea.
